Dr. Jon is trained in the patented, FDA-approved laser technique that offers an alternative to conventional gum surgery. We utilize a distinct, state-of-the-art dental laser that is able to treat many common gum problems. We believe laser therapy will become the future of periodontics having the same patient appeal as Lasik eye correction. We are excited this advanced technology is available in our office today.
Lasers can often avoid many of the disadvantages of traditional gum treatment. Scalpel blades are not used resulting in little or no bleeding. Most procedures require no stitches and post-treatment discomfort is negligible. There is usually no down time and this patient-friendly treatment is completed in just two sessions.
So what is Laser Periodontal Therapy?
Millenium Dental Technolgies has a patented FDA approved procedure know as LANAP for short or Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure. This patient friendly treatment vanishes your fear as no scalpel and no sutures. Dr. Jon was the first Provider of this amazing therapy in the Coulee Region.
What would be the advantages ? No cutting, new sewing and to the guest this means less pain, less bleeding, less swelling. less tissue removal and amazing recovery time. The laser removes only the diseased tissue and because there is minimal gum shrinkage after the procedure, this results in less root exposure and minimal to no sensitivity. Also, it can all be done in one appointment with comfort of sedation dentistry.
How does the laser work?
First the tartar associated with the bleeding and inflamed gums is removed using a piezo ultrasonic scaling device. Then a small amount of light energy from the laser fiber is gently placed between the tooth and gum….only the diseased tissue is removed and this aid in the healing and bacteria reduction so the body can heal. We provide special at home instructions and see you every 3 months for perio maintenance and laser disinfect visits.
