About at-home teeth whitening

When someone chooses an over-the-counter teeth whitening system, they must choose one that will meet their needs. Two of the more common complaints about whitening ones teeth at home are the fact that the teeth can only be whitened a few shades and that they will irritate the gum tissue and/or cause damage to a tooth’s enamel. This is why choosing to have one's teeth whitened in a professional dental setting is highly recommended, since there is no irritation or tooth damage problems when a dentist provides someone with professional teeth whitening services.

Common at-home teeth whitening options

The following is a list of three of the more common teeth whitening options people are using at home nowadays and how effective they are.

#1 – Teeth whitening strips

Teeth whitening strips are applied directly to the surface of the teeth and left on for a certain amount of time, usually about 30 minutes. Hydrogen peroxide is what lifts out the stains and can whiten the teeth up to three shades.

#2 – At home teeth whitening trays

While over-the-counter teeth whitening trays are similar to whitening trays provided by a professional dentist, the difference is the dentist knows exactly what kind of and how much teeth whitening solution to provide for any particular patient. Professional teeth whitening trays are recommended for this reason.

#3 – Teeth whitening toothpastes and mouth rinses

Many toothpastes and mouth rinses are adding in ingredients which are able to lift minimal surface stains from the teeth. Using these two at home teeth whitening options is often recommended after someone has their teeth whitened in a dental office.
