7 Little Known Tips for a Healthy Smile

Posted on: May 16, 2018

Everyone has some level of a desire for a smile that is both healthy and stunning. One of the first things people notice about someone is a smile. In fact, people tend to make assumptions about you based on the condition of your teeth.

People tend to view you as older and unattractive when your teeth are in poor condition, while you are seen as younger and more attractive when you have a healthy smile.

Given the above, it is no surprise that you are more likely to feel great about yourself when your teeth are in excellent condition.

Let's take a look at 7 easy things you can do to keep your teeth in tip-top condition.

1. Brush twice daily

Brushing your teeth twice a day is one of the most important things you can do to keep your smile healthy. If possible, brush your teeth after every meal. Frequent brushing helps to remove harmful plaque which causes tooth decay and gum disease. When plaque remains on your teeth for a couple of days, it hardens into tartar, which unlike plaque, is not possible to remove without professional treatment.

2. Floss daily

Flossing at least one every day is just as important as brushing your teeth twice a day. Both tasks serve the same function: cleaning the surfaces of your teeth, along with the removal of plaque and food particles. A toothbrush cannot clean the tight spaces between your teeth, so dental floss is necessary. That way, you can clean the tightest spaces and crevices in your mouth.

3. Use an antibacterial mouthwash

Tooth decay occurs when food particles and plaque convert into acids by millions of bacteria in your mouth. A good way to combat tooth decay is by reducing the number of bacteria in your mouth. An antibacterial mouthwash can also freshen your breath.

4. Be careful with sugar-infused products

Sugar is just as bad for your teeth as it is for your overall health. It is one of those things acid-producing bacteria in your mouth thrive on. The most common culprits are sodas, candies, and desserts. If you absolutely must have a sugary treat, make sure you brush your teeth afterward.

5. Eat nutritious foods

Your teeth need lots of calcium and fluoride to remain healthy, so consume adequate amounts of foods that provide you with these essential nutrients. Dairy products and green vegetables are a good source of calcium. You can get extra fluoride by using a toothpaste and mouthwash with fluoride or drink fluoridated water.

6. Avoid bad habits

Bad habits like biting on your nails, grinding your teeth, or chewing on ice will eventually lead to your teeth sustaining damage. Try to stick to softs foods you can easily chew and avoid these teeth-damaging habits.
